Cyanobacteria (also known as blue-green algae) are photosynthetic autotrophs that primarily contain Chlorophyll a. This pigment is similar to the one found in higher green plants and is essential for oxygenic photosynthesis. While Chlorophyll a is the dominant chlorophyll pigment, cyanobacteria also possess other accessory pigments that assist in capturing light:

Phycobilins: These include phycocyanin (blue) and phycoerythrin (red), which give cyanobacteria their characteristic blue-green color.

Carotenoids: Such as carotenes and xanthophylls, which help in light absorption and provide protection against damage.

Minor Chlorophylls: Some specialized cyanobacteria contain Chlorophyll d or Chlorophyll f to absorb far-red/near-infrared light, but these are not the universal standard for all cyanobacteria.
